CPI predicts hung Assembly in 2009

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: The Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K. Narayana predicted a multi-party, multi corner fight in the ensuing 2009 elections and a hung Assembly for the first time in the State’s electoral history.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of Medak district council meeting here on Tuesday, he said that these elections would put an end to the duopoly of Congress and Telugu Desam in the political arena.

Referring to the political party proposed to be set up by film star Chiranjeevi and the internal squabbles in the Telugu Desam Party, he forecast the creation of few more political parties before the elections. “A multi party system is good for democracy and especially for the people as they occupy the centre stage,” Mr. Narayana said.

Commenting on the possibility of sharing the third front platform with the TRS, he said that communicating with TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao was rather difficult for Communists. He said that the party has decided to strengthen the ‘Bhoo Poratam.’
