Badi baata programme to be conducted from today

267 alternative schools to be located in accessible villages

25 bridge schools to be opened

VIZIANAGARAM: The household education survey conducted by the Education Department found 9202 children (boys: 4032 and girls: 5170) out of school in the district.

These identified children would be enrolled during the 10-day ‘Badi baata’ programme that would begin on Thursday, Additional Project Coordinator A. Prabhakara Rao said.

At a press conference on Wednesday, he said that core committees at district, mandal and villages level had been constituted with himself as convenor.

During the period, in addition to enrolling 5 plus age group children, headmasters of primary and upper primary schools would implement the transition of children who passed 5th and 6th classes to next classes. This would automatically check dropout, he felt.

Additional classrooms

The APC said 288 additional classrooms had been sanctioned this year for the district in addition to 267 alternative schools that would be located in accessible villages.

He said that the Labour Department and the Rajiv Vidya Mission would jointly organize anti-child labour enforcement drive for a month from Thursday and issue notices to those who had employed children below 14 years of age.

The children thus freed from work would be enrolled in about 25 bridge schools that were being opened shortly.

Rally to be taken out

Mr. Prabhakara Rao said a rally involving mahila samakhyas, voluntary organizations and teachers would be taken out from fort junction to Tehsildar office on Thursday to enlighten parents on the need to enroll their children in schools.
