dated June 12, 1958: Harbour in Arctic Circle

Atomic blasts may be used by the United States to dig a harbour north of the Arctic Circle to Alaska, according to the Atomic Energy Commission. A spokesman of the Commission said surveys would be carried out on the proposed site-between Cape Seppings and Cape Thompson. The harbour could be excavated in 1960 if the surveys showed that it was safe and practicable.
