The Mango Mela is back

Staff Reporter

Mango Mela at select HOPCOMS outlets from today

HOPCOMS sold over 57 tonnes of mango during last mela

BANGALORE: The King of Fruits arrived in the market some time ago, but the prohibitive cost may have deterred many from buying it. However, here’s some sweet news: the Horticultural Producer’s Co-operative Marketing and Processing Society Limited (HOPCOMS) is not only bringing several varieties of mangoes closer to people but also intends to sell them at a discounted price.

The fortnight-long Mango Mela, kick-starting on Thursday at 15 select outlets of HOPCOMS across the city, will feature some of the best varieties of mangoes from Karnataka that would be offered to buyers at 10 per cent discount. Among the varieties available will be Badami, Raspuri, Mallika, Benishan, Malgova, Sendura, Daseri, Kesar, Chowsa, Alphonso, Kalapad, Neelam, Thothapuri and Benganapalli.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, HOPCOMS president B. Munegowda said the mela had been organised to secure good price to the mango growers while offering quality fruits to the buyers.

While HOPCOMS sold over 57 tonnes of mango during the last mela, it has set itself a target of around 150 tonnes this year. Mangoes grown in Kolar, Srinivaspura, Mulbagal, Ramanagara, Chennapatna and other places would be sold at these outlets, he added.

Mangoes will be sold at the HOPCOMS outlets at Krishna Rao Park, Kormangala Main Road, Koramangala Play Ground, Koramangala, Banashankari BDA Complex, Ramakrishna Ashrama, Sajjan Rao Circle, Vijayanagar A.C. Mutt, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Malleshwaram Ladies Club, M.S. Ramaiah Hospital Road, Jayanagar 9th Block, R.T. Nagar Main Road, Parappana Agrahara and Binny Mill Fruits and Vegetables Special APMC Market premises.

The mobile sales point would be at HSR Layout, M.S. Building premises, High Court premises, Arakere Layout, Kengeri Satellite town and J.P. Nagar mini forest.
