Letters to the Editor
A growing corporate sector is doing everything it can to realise its social obligations because corporations do well only because of their employees (“Promoting corporate social responsibility,” June 9). Be it with respect to internal governance — developing a synergy between the ideologies of the employees and the higher management — or provision of good working conditions, we find that many companies have set an example for the rest to follow. They have not only given employment to many but have also taken care of the education of their employees’ children by opening schools. However, it is sad to see that BPOs fail to provide even quality food and transport to their workforce. It is, therefore, not just about a few corporate entities but about many more who need to pull their socks up. A code of conduct should be laid down for both parties to achieve more tangible results. Perhaps with global initiatives like Global Compact, more and more companies will become aware of their social duties, which will go a long way in giving India the much-needed healthy work environment. Neha Singh Yadav, Gurgaon Corporate social responsibility is a noble duty. In our country, entrepreneurship has become common. Many fellow Indians are emerging as global leaders. I appeal to them to contribute significantly to the uplift of society. I also acclaim the efforts of those who are taking a keen interest in it. Naval Kishore Pandey, Ghaziabad
