A delegation visits Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai Theatre experts’ meeting to finalise the project BHUBANESWAR: For the theatre fraternity of the State who has been lamenting ‘a step-motherly attitude’ of the department of culture towards their welfare, here is a reason to rejoice. The State Government has decided to construct an exclusive theatre complex in the capital soon. AuditoriumSources in the department of culture revealed that an auditorium with the state-of-the-art facilities would come up on the state-owned Odissi Research Centre premises costing Rs.2.40 crore. Being modelled after the famous Prithvi Theatres of Mumbai, it would have a capacity to accommodate 350 viewers, it was learnt. The sophisticated auditorium apart, the theatre complex would house a sales counter of the publications of the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi. It would also have a canteen to cater to the theatre artistes. The complex would be used round the year for staging of plays, conduct workshops, seminars and training programmes. A delegation has already visited the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai to study its design, informed officials. A meeting of several eminent theatre personalities of the State was convened to finalise the details of the project. The theatre experts included Asim Basu, Sachi Das, Ajit Das, Dhira Mallick, Subodh Patnaik, Nabin Parida and Manoj Patnaik.
