BELLARY: The Bellary-based Tungabhadra Education, Health and Rural Development Trust will soon start an evening polytechnic at its Sanjay Gandhi Polytechnic premises in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar here from the 2008-09 academic year. The college is meant for those who have discontinued their studies after the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination, in order to earn a living. This is the first evening college in northern Karnataka where three-and-a-half-year diploma courses in computer science engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and metallurgy will be conducted. The courses will be held from 5 p.m. onwards. They are approved by the State Government, the All-India Council for Technical Education and the Karnataka Technical Education Department, Managing Trustee Yeshwant Bhupal said in a press release here on Wednesday. The courses are meant only for Kannadigas, and specifically for residents of Bellary district. Candidates who have completed their SSLC before 2005 and have been working in any of the government-approved industries/units for a minimum period of three years are eligible to apply.
