Literacy mission distributes books

Kozhikode: The District Literacy Mission distributed free text books to the 1,687 persons who joined the fourth grade course conducted by the mission.

A meeting of the mission held at District Panchayat Bhavan here on Wednesday pointed out that 1,120 persons had registered for the seventh grade course.

Nearly 148 persons appeared for the Class X examinations and 105 came out successful.

Seventeen persons secured first class and 50 persons secured second class. Over 860 persons registered for the next batch to appear for the examinations.

Kozhikode district panchayat president K.P. Kunhahamedkutty presided over the meeting.

Mission coordinator M.D. Valsala and members Kodakkattu Sreedharan, Janamma Kunhunni and K.K. Sivadasan spoke at the meeting.

The mission has also started Vidya centres for conducting classes in Carnatic music, tabala, dance, chess, folk song and dance.
