KOCHI: The ongoing crisis in the Malayalam film industry deepened on Wednesday with the Indian Film Employees Confederation (IFEC) and Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) extending their support to the MACTA Federation led by its general secretary Vinayan. IFEC and FEFSI representatives, who held marathon talks with the film fraternity for the last three days, made it clear that there is no chance for a parallel organisation. S. Vijayan, president of FEFSI, said the directors who resigned from the MACTA Federation following differences with Mr. Vinayan had every right to make films. “But they will not get the cooperation of workers affiliated to both IFEC and FEFSI. We are with MACTA Federation and nobody can change that. We will stay only with the labourers,” he said. Pointing out that IFEC did not support any ban on artistes, Mr. Vijayan said that the confederation had taken up the issue involving director Tulasidas and actor Dileep. The breakaway faction led by directors Joshie, Sibi Malayil and Siddique said here that they did not need the affiliation of national organisations in the film industry. But Mr. Siddique said that they were hopeful of getting the recognition of FEFSI. The breakaway faction claimed that representatives of the State Film Producers Association, Film Distributors Association, Film Chamber of Commerce and Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes would meet here on Monday. An urgent general body meeting of MACTA Director’s Union would be held here on Thursday.
