Customise data in Net for effective teaching: VC

TIRUCHI: The need for utilising computers as an effective tool for learning was underscored at the inaugural of an in-service training course for Post Graduate Teachers in Computer Science at the Kendriya Vidyalaya – 1 earlier this week.

Teaching-learning could be made more effective by customising data in the Internet in the forms of audio, video, animation, text and pictures to suit different subjects, the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University M. Ponnavaikko said, inaugurating the 12-day residential programme.

Only after familiarising students with control aspects of computers should teachers delve into explaining data manipulation. Teachers must acclimatise themselves to the habit of creating e-content and ensure that students have constant access to information in the Information and Communication Technology era, Prof. Ponnavaikko emphasised.

Addressing the participants, K.V. Jayajothi, Course Director and Principal K.V. – 1, spelt out the thrust areas of training: Focus on CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) syllabus for Computer Science and Informative Practices; role and responsibilities of PGT Computer Science in maintaining ICT infrastructure; development of effective information management structure in K.Vs; maintaining and updating of websites; e-learning; and content mapping for e-learning.

The 47 participating teacher belong to schools administered by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Chennai Region, that has jurisdiction over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry.

They are among the first batch of teachers appointed to regularised posts.

According to one of the resource persons, T.N. Ravi, Head Department of Computer Science, Cauvery College for Women, the training handled by experienced faculty of arts and science colleges in the city would expose the participants to contents at the level of higher secondary.
