Official expresses doubts about the procedures Number of photographers not sufficient: officials
Special Commissioner D. Sambasiva Rao reviewing the preparation of voter lists with photographers in Vijayawada on Wednesday. VIJAYAWADA: A door-to-door survey must be taken up for photographing of voters under the supervision of the Booth Level Officer (BLOs) and the practice of conducting street-corner meetings should be discontinued, said Land Revenue principal secretary and Krishna district election observer D. Sambasiva Rao. Mr. Sambasiva Rao reviewed the issue of election photo identity cards and revision of voters’ lists along with District Collector Sailaja Ramiyer, Joint Collector Rama Narayana Reddy and Sub-Collector Gaurav Uppal in the Sub-Collector’s office conference hall here on Wednesday. Mr. Sambasiva Rao said that the enumerators should be doubly sure before adding or deleting names from the voters list. He expressed doubts about the procedures being followed in the district because the number of names deleted were the same as those added. He said the random survey being made by the officials should cover at least 25 per cent of the voters list. The survey for collecting the photograph and data should be completed before July 14. Officers said that the work was slow because the number of photographers available in some mandals was not sufficient. There were only 400 photographers to cover 50 mandals. The Collector said 35 per cent of the voters in the district had already been covered in the survey till date. Later, Mr. Sambasiva Rao also reviewed the implementation of the recommendations made by Koneru Ranga Rao Committee. He said that the State government accepted in toto the 90 of the 107 recommendations made by the committee. The Government had already completed the formalities required for the implementation of 58 recommendations, he said. He explained to officials the steps required for distribution of land in the phase-V of land distribution. He said that the details of land available for acquisition, like irrigation facilities and current cropping pattern should be recorded as per the format stipulated by the government. All the 17 attributes short-listed in the format should be filled, he said.
