TIRUCHI: The number of polling booths in the future elections in Tamil Nadu would increase consequent to delimitation of Assembly constituencies, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said.

Addressing the media at the end of the regional level review meeting with the Collectors of nine districts here on Wednesday, Mr. Gupta said that polling booths were to be set up in consistence with two factors, delimitation of the Assembly segments and the norms on distance stipulated by the Election Commission.

He said that the number of polling booths would increase in the light of the delimitation of the constituencies.

Mr. Gupta said that this was the third regional-level review meeting in the past couple of days. Earlier, he had reviewed the re-organisation of polling booths at Tirunelveli on Tuesday and Madurai on Wednesday. A similar meeting would be held in Chennai on Thursday.

Training had been imparted to the District Election Officers on verification of electoral rolls.

These officers, in turn, would guide the other election officers in their respective districts, he added.

Collectors of Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Perambalur, Karur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur and Cuddalore participated in the review meeting.
