BJP, IJP clash over Periyar posters
Special Correspondent
LUCKNOW: Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian Justice Party (IJP) workers have clashed at Kausambi in Ghaziabad over the displaying of posters and banners of rationalist Periyar.
The IJP, which is opposing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s decision not to allow the glorification of Periyar, had announced its programme a few days back.
IJP president Udit Raj escaped unhurt but the BJP workers reportedly beat up his driver and damaged the vehicle. In a press release, the IJP alleged that Periyar’s photograph was vandalised by BJP workers.
Dr. Raj criticised the Mayawati government. He said the BSP had mobilised the Dalits on Periyar’s philosophy but dumped the rationalist after coming to power.
