Clear-cut instructions: Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta addressing a press conference in Madurai on Wednesday.

MADURAI: Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said on Wednesday that booth level officers (BLOs) would conduct door-to-door verification of all the electors’ entries from first week of July.

Speaking to reporters after presiding over a training programme attended by District Election Officers (DEOs) of Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Theni, Dindigul and Sivaganga, he said that electoral rolls had to be prepared exhaustively following the delimitation exercise as there were changes in the boundaries of the constituencies. In continuation of this process, after realignment, table verification would be conducted to check whether the Parts, Sections and the Electors’ entries had been recorded properly in the registers.

“We want to ensure that no area gets left out or duplicated,” Mr Gupta maintained. After verification, the BLOs would give an acknowledgement slip and also paste a sticker on the door.

The DEOs would accord training to the Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and BLOs with a CD which contained pre-recorded audio presentation. Bill Collectors and VAOs would act as the BLOs in the enumeration process. Random checks would also be conducted, he replied to a query.

Already, training had been given to all officials at Tirunelveli and Madurai regional centres, while it would be accorded in Chennai, Coimbatore and Erode on June 12 and 13 respectively.

When pointed out that there were complaints of non-receipt or non-issuance of Electors’ Photo Identity Card (EPIC), Mr Gupta suggested that they might be brought to the notice of the District Electoral Officers (District Collectors).

Collectors S. S. Jawahar (Madurai), R. Vasuki (Dindigul), S. J. Chiru (Theni), Pankaj Kumar Bansal (Sivaganga) and R. Kirlosh Kumar (Ramanathapuram), Joint Chief Electoral Officer Jayashree Muralidharan and Special Officer S. Bragada participated.
