Excitement raised to ten

Film buffs in Malabar are eagerly awaiting the release Kamal Haasan’s ‘Dasavatharam.’

Some Kamal Haasan fans in Kozhikode are even ready to get up early in the morning to head to Apsara Theatre to watch the first show at 6.30 a.m.

“We decided to have an early morning show because we found through the several phone calls we received that there was an audience for that and all the balcony tickets were sold out within a couple of hours this morning,” says Jose Joseph, managing partner, Apsara Theatre. “We are confident of a huge initial for the film,” he said. Apsara is one of the 80-odd cinemas in the State that would screen the film.

‘Dasavatharam’ is touted to be the costliest Indian movie ever made.

“No Malayalam film was released in as many centres,” says M. Joseph, manager, Lal Creations, which distributes the film in the State.

“The film will be released in three cinemas in Kannur and two in Thalassery. We had to pay a higher rate for this film but we should be able to make a profit if the show goes on for at least two weeks,” he said.

Joseph banks on Kamal Haasan fans like Sheril Raj to make the K.S. Ravikumar film a big hit.

“I will see the film at the first opportunity,” says Sheril, a Kozhikode-based businessman.

“I have grown up seeing his films. I have enjoyed his films like ‘Moonram Pirai,’ ‘Pushpaka Vimanam’ and ‘Sagara Sangamam.’

“He is an actor who dares to experiment and I am sure we will see a new Kamal Haasan in ‘Dasavatharam’ too,” says Sheril.

“You would be shocked to see some of his avatars in the film,” Telugu actor Suman, one of the few to have seen a preview of the film, had told The Hindu recently.
