BHUBANESWAR: The city would host the 24th conclave of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) from August 7 to 10. IATO Orissa chapter Chairperson J.K. Mohanty told The Hindu that the mega event is being supported by Orissa Tourism, hoteliers and tour operators of the State. “Despite of stiff competition from other states to host the prestigious conclave, Tourism Minister D.P. Mishra was successful in convincing the IATO officials to host the event in Bhubaneswar,” he said and added that the IATO delegation has two rounds of discussion with the government officials here for the event. The second meet was attended by the hoteliers, tour operators, airlines representatives and other stakeholders of the hospitality industry. The State would enjoy a special slot in the business session as well as in the introductory session for presenting its tourism potentialities and investment opportunities, maintained Mr. Mohanty. Special discountIATO has assured that Orissa would figure prominently in the brochure programs of all tour operators in international market, he revealed and added that familiarisation tours for the delegates to different destinations are being planned to highlight Orissa’s tourism potentials through its art, craft, culture, tradition, destinations, dance and cuisine. The city hotels have volunteered to offer special discount for about 600 rooms required to house the delegates while other stakeholders have also lent their support to make the event a success, Mr. Mohanty stated. About 1,200 tour operators from different parts of the country and some from abroad are scheduled to participate in the conclave that would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
