Teams formed to check employment of children

Staff Reporter

Krishnagiri: About 1,000 students representing more than 20 schools took out a massive rally here on Thursday to create awareness among the public on the ill effects of child labour as well as to highlight the dangers of children working in hazardous and non-hazardous occupations. The rally started at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, which was flagged off by PA to Collector (General) Prakasam.

The students carried on their awareness campaign through the important lanes and thoroughfares of Krishnagiri town.

Anti-child labour rallies were also organised in Hosur. The students carried placards and raised slogans insisting on the basic rights of children and providing education to children.

The event was organised by the district administration to create awareness among the public.

Speaking at the rally Mr. Prakasam said that employment of children as domestic help in houses and as workers in hotels, roadside eateries and dhabas would invite stringent action.

The District Administration has formed special teams at taluk headquarters involving Revenue, Police and Labour departments.

The teams would conduct surprise checks at roadside eateries and restaurants in the district and submit their report to the administration every month.

Campaigns

Sustained awareness campaigns would be conducted through SHGs and National Child Labour Project (NCLP) schools highlighting the ill-effects of employing children below 14 years, Mr. Prakasam added.

Later officials took the anti-child labour day pledge at the Collectorate.

Mr. Prakasam administered the pledge to officials. Public Relations Officer M. Krishnasamy was present.
