Carpet weavers criticise raise in yarn price

BHAVANI: Carpet weavers affiliated to the Bhavani Kaithari Jamakkala Vyaparigal Sangam have asked the Government to control spiralling yarn prices.

In a release, the weavers said in the last two months, the prices of 10s and 6s variety of yarn, used in warp and weft, had increased manifold, throwing out of gear the handloom carpet industry.

In the current circumstances, the weavers said, it was impossible to weave and sell carpets. The weavers staged a dharna in front of the Bhavani taluk office. Traders joined the protest by downing shutters.
