The call was given by Jija Hari Singh, Director General of Police and Commandant General Home Guards and Director Civil defence, Fire and Emergency Services. She was introducing the theme of a seminar organised on the occasion. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa inaugurated the five-day exhibition. Home Minister V.S. Acharya was present. Ms. Singh said disaster preparedness had become an important aspect in modern civic society, particularly in saving life and property. Modernisation of equipment, human resources training and management and disaster management drills had to be taken up regularly. The international exhibition was just a beginning in this direction, she added. B.N.P. Albuquerque and Mariswamy were among those former police officials present. Eighty-six national and international exhibitors are participating in the event. Products of various companies used in rescue operations in natural and manmade disasters, cutting tools, fire-fighting equipment, bomb disposal equipment, various types of boats and vessels used during floods and earthquakes and mobile hospitals are on display. There is no entrance fee for the event being held at the Palace Grounds.
