Yeddyurappa on Thursday said the State Government had sanctioned 2.5 acres at Sri Kanteerava Studios in Bangalore for the Rajkumar memorial. Speaking after inaugurating the renovated building of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) here, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Cabinet had taken a decision in this regard on Thursday. The Government had already released Rs. 6 crore for an auditorium, museum and creating other facilities at the memorial. An additional Rs. 4 crore would be released shortly, and work would commence in a few days, he added. A committee, headed by the Chief Minister, would monitor the progress of work at the memorial. The value of the land sanctioned is estimated at Rs. 16 crore. Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Cabinet also decided to allot a 60X40 site in Bangalore to child prodigy Kishan, who bagged the prestigious Swarna Kamal for his movie, “C/O Footpath.” The site would be allotted through the Bangalore Development Authority. The Chief Minister congratulated the artistes, directors, producers and technicians of the Kannada and Tulu movies that were selected for awards at the 54th National Film Awards recently. A function would be organised shortly to felicitate them, he announced. AssuranceWhile assuring the film industry that his Government would work towards solving its problems, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the people were expecting “original and tasteful” movies from the industry. He recalled the contribution of Gubbi Veeranna, Shankar Singh, B.S. Ranga and Rajkumar for the development of Kannada cinema. Minister for Information and Excise Katta Subramanya Naidu said he would soon convene a meeting of industry representatives to discuss the problems of the industry and find solutions. HelpHe said the Government would help artistes who were living in penury and advised the KFCC to prepare a list of them. In his introductory address, KFCC vice-president Sa. Ra. Govindu urged the Chief Minister to check the flourishing pirated VCD/DVD trade, which was causing heavy losses to the industry. The Government should hasten the process of invoking the stringent Goonda Act against those indulging in piracy, he remarked. Film artiste and MLC “Mukhyamantri” Chandru, who has been appointed chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, said he would work as a bridge between the Government and the film industry. Noted actor and member of the Lok Sabha M.H. Amabareesh, producer Parvathamma Rajkumar and KFCC president Tallam Nanjunda Shetty were present on the occasion. Mr. Yeddyurappa felicitated Mr. Shetty and the former presidents of KFCC K.V. Gupta, R. Lakshman, Nagaraja Shetty, B.C.S. Narayan, C.V.L. Shastry, V.R. Raju, T. Ramakrishna, K.V.
