COLOMBO: Sri Lanka has urged the European Union (E.U.) to list the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) and other LTTE front organizations, which have been “clearly identified”, including by the U.S., as raising funds for the LTTE. Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona made the appeal here on Wednesday at the Sri Lanka-E.U. Joint Commission meeting. Colombo banned the TRO in November 2007. Dr. Kohona appreciated the action taken by the E.U. to proscribe the LTTE and called for “practical effect” by initiating legal action and other measures. France’s Ambassador Michel Lummaux, representing the E.U. presidency, assured Sri Lanka of support in its fight against terrorism. The Foreign Ministry quoted Mr. Lummaux as saying the E.U. acknowledged the LTTE was a terrorist organisation that exercises fascist control over two districts in the northern province and has been responsible for ethnic cleansing of the entire Muslim population from October 1990.
