Karnataka teams progress

BELLARY: The Karnataka men’s and women’s teams advanced in the 53rd all-India ball badminton tournament held at the BDAA grounds here on Thursday.

While Karnataka men beat Rajasthan, the women defeated Mumbai to cruise into the third round.

Ryan scalps five

Off-spinner Ryan Ninan bagged five wickets and helped Social Cricketers defeat IAF Blues by 49 runs in the Vayusena Cup tournament in Bangalore on Thursday.

The scores:

Social Cricketers 143 for nine in 30 overs bt IAF Blues 94 in 24.5 overs (Ryan Ninan five for 16).

Vijaya Bank 164 for seven in 30 overs (Shyam Ponnappa 43, B.A. Vinay 40) lost to Vultures 165 for three in 23.4 overs (K.V. Bharath 58).

Prajwal triumphs

Shet P. Prajwal of Tumkur bagged the first monthly chess tournament for children in the under-8 section.

The tournament was conducted by the Bangalore District Chess Association.
