MALAPPURAM: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government will soon solve the problem of shortage of higher secondary seats in Malabar, particularly in Malappuram district, Education Minister M.A. Baby has said. “The government is aware of the severe seat shortage faced by Malabar for Plus Two admissions. An appropriate decision will be taken to address the crisis,” the Minister told reporters on Thursday after inaugurating the Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Memorial Centre for Studies and Research on Folk and Mapila Arts at Kondotty. He said that work was on in full swing for setting up a distance campus of Aligarh Muslim University in Malappuram. “The land required for the university centre will be acquired soon,” he said. Mr. Baby said that the Moyinkutty Vaidyar Memorial should be upgraded as a national memorial, where art forms of the yore would be nourished. The new Mapila studies centre at the Vaidyar Memorial has been set up at a cost of Rs.10 lakh. Seventy-eight students were given training for 20 days in various folk arts. Mohammedunni Haji, MLA, gave away certificates to the first batch of students. T.K. Hamza, MP, presided over the function.
