Court imposes fines on prohibition offenders

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Five habitual prohibition offenders of Tiruvannamalai district were arrested under Section 52 (E) of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act 1937 and produced before the respective Judicial Magistrate’s Courts on the orders of the Superintendent of Police, V. Balakrishnan, recently.

The Judicial Magistrates imposed varying fines on the offenders and ordered them to stay away from their native places for periods ranging from two weeks to four months.

The Judicial Magistrate, Polur, ordered Chinnakuzhanthai (45) of Thellur in Chetpet police station limits to pay a fine of Rs.200 and stay away from her village for three months. The Judicial Magistrate, Arni, ordered Manonmani (46) of Thirumani in Kalambur police station limits to pay a fine of Rs.300 and stay away from her native village for two weeks. The Judicial Magistrate-II, Tiruvannamalai, sentenced Selvi (60) of Andampallam in Vettavalam police station limits to rigorous imprisonment for three months and simple imprisonment for three months, and ordered her to stay away from her village for three moths.

The Judicial Magistrate, Cheyyar, ordered Rajendiran (40) of Sothiyampakkam in Dusi police station limits to pay a fine of Rs.400 and stay away from his native village for four months. The Judicial Magistrate, Polur, ordered Krishnan (38) of Enamangalam in Chetpet police station limits to pay a fine of Rs.350 and stay away from his native village for three months.

According to a release from the Inspector of Police, District Special Branch, Tiruvannamalai, the accused have been informed of the court orders.
