BERHAMPUR: For the first time in Orissa, Berhampur University has decided to introduce astrology as a subject in the distance education mode from the current academic session, official sources said. The course of studies and the regulation for the one year post-graduate diploma in ‘Jyotirvidya’ was formulated on Thursday at the board of studies meeting held at university. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of noted astrologer Nimai Banarjee, Chairman of the Board of Studies Committee. The other members of the committee are Tara Prasad Mohapatra, Mayadhar Sahu, both retired professors, KC Acharya, Dhaneswar Das and Pradeep Kumar Subudhi. The course was likely to start from this year, after the approval of course of studies and regulations by the academic council of the university, said Vice Chancellor, Bijay Kumar Sahu. “We have decided to introduce astrology in distance education mode because of the subject is on very much demand at present,” said Mohapatra, son of Baikoli Mohapatra, a noted astrologer in the State and former senate member in Utkal University. – PTI
