Expressing SOLIDARITY: AITUC activists staging a demonstration in Puducherry on Thursday. PUDUCHERRY: Members owing allegiance to the All India Trade Union Congress on Thursday staged a demonstration near the head post office calling for immediate intervention of the Union government to concede the demands of the agitating contract workers of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation. Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the AITUC V.S. Abishekam said the agitation of the contract workers to highlight their demands had not only resulted in a huge loss to the corporation but also caused hardship to the public. Against this backdrop, the Centre should intervene to find an amicable settlement to end the agitation, he added.
