While they were parking their bikes in front of the administrative block, a group of university students allegedly attacked them. The medical students were outnumbered. One of their bikes was damaged by the attackers. Sixteen medical students managed to return to their campus. Eleven of them were rescued by the staff of the university, who kept them under their security, till a police team ensured their safe passage to Berhampur. Three medical students were still missing. A high-level team of university authorities also searched the hostels for them as it was alleged that they were taken hostage by university students. According to sources, the recent clash was offshoot of an earlier clash between the two student groups in the MKCG Medical College hospital campus. On that day a group of medical college students had allegedly beaten up some university students who had brought a case to the hospital. They had injured a student leader of the university as well as manhandled a press photographer and destroyed his camera.
