Unearthed property includes six houses, two acres in Bhubaneswar Simultaneous raids conducted by six teams BERHAMPUR: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday continued their raid on the office and rented house of the police inspector Girija Shankar Rath in the city. During the raids on different establishments owned by Mr Rath in Bhubaneswar and his native village Dandamukundpur in Puri district since Wednesday the vigilance sleuths already found disproportionate unaccounted property worth more than Rs 2 crore. As he was not present in the city, the vigilance officials had sealed his office and house here, which were opened on Thursday for assessment of property. According to sources proofs of savings of large amount which was disproportionate to his official income were found from his house in the city. Officials involved in the raids said after the completion of the raid they would file the final report to the Home Department for action against Mr Rath. How a small police officer could amass over Rs. 2 crore worth of property in 27 years of his career was the talk of the town. He had spent 20 years of his service career in Ganjam and Berhampur police districts. He had joined the police force as sub-inspector in 1981 and had been promoted to the post of inspector in 1998. As per vigilance officials he had six houses and two acres in prime locations of Bhubaneswar. Over 650 grams of gold ornaments and Rs. 16,42,000 were seized from his houses in Bhubaneswar. Six vigilance teams conducted simultaneous raids on houses owned by Rath as well as the house of his in-laws in Bhubaneswar, his parental house at Danda Makundpur near Pipli in Puri district . His colleagues are also astonished by this recent haul. According to them he was a devotee of goddess Durga with no addictions.
