CUTTACK: Hundreds of students of Ravenshaw University staged a demonstration in the university campus on Thursday over the State government’s decision to slash the seats in the arts stream of graduation and post graduation courses of the university from this year. The students under the banner of Democratic Students Organisation (DSO) came in a rally from the railway station in the morning and held protest meeting inside the campus. The students later handed over a memorandum to the Registrar . The students are demanding immediate revoke of the government notification reducing the number of seats in the university. They are also demanding that the ongoing admission process be stalled until the impugned notification is withdrawn. Meanwhile the Oriya students studying in New Delhi under the banner of Delhi Odia Students’ Association (DOSA) have also criticized the government’s decision to slash the seats in the Arts stream of the famous Ravenshaw University. In a release, the DOSA convener Tejeswar Parida has flayed the decision and has called for increase in number of seats in Arts stream by recruiting more teachers.
