Court upholds cancellation order

Special Correspondent

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the State government to consider handing over the wholesale distribution of ration articles to the State Civil Supplies Corporation in a phased-manner.

Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair issued the directive when two petitions filed against the cancellation of the wholesale distribution of ration articles came up for hearing. The petition was filed by Usha Chandran and another person from Thrissur. The court upheld the order of cancellation.

The court observed that it might be desirable for the government to handover the wholesale distribution to the corporation. However, the court said it could not compel the government to assign the wholesale dealership to the corporation.

If the government did not take a decision to entrust the distribution to the corporation, the government should handover the distribution dealership to two or three persons. The petitioner was the wholesale distributor for 130 retailers in the district.

Bar licences of clubs

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice A.K. Basheer on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking to cancel the bar licence granted to various clubs in the State, including the Trivandrum Golf Club.

Dismissing the petition, a Division Bench said it was a private and publicity interest litigation. The petition was filed by M.L. Geroge of Kochi.
