NREG scheme launched

KARAIKAL: National Rural Employment (NREG) scheme was launched on Monday in Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Dr.N.Vasanthakumar, who inaugurated the NREG programme, said that poor agricultural workers and casual labourers in the villages would be provided employment under the scheme for a minimum period of 100 days in a year and paid Rs.80 as daily wages.

The Collector said that thousands of men and women had already registered for work under the scheme and had been issued identity cards.
