Wheat procured on support price to be distributed through PDS

Court cases linked with pending electricity bills to be withdrawn

BHOPAL: With Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections drawing near, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has stepped up his campaign to publicise steps being taken by his Government for welfare of the deprived sections of society.

Addressing a “Vikas Sammelan” at Gohaparu in Shahdol district on Wednesday, the Chief Minister announced that Shahdol would get the status of a division from June 14. Gohaparu would become a tehsil.

Mr. Chauhan said wheat procured on support price in the State would be distributed through the Public Distribution System. Dwelling at length on the measures taken by the State Government to make agriculture a profitable occupation, the Chief Minister said the Centre would be asked to fix the support price of paddy at Rs.1,000 per quintal. He said days have been fixed for distribution of foodgrains from fair price shops to curb black-marketing.

The Chief Minister said court cases linked with pending electricity bills would be withdrawn and pattas (land ownership certificates) would be distributed to families traditionally cultivating land in forest areas. He also held out the assurance that fertilizer and seeds would available in adequate quantities for the kharif sowing season.

Women’s empowerment

Addressing a largely attended women’s empowerment camp at Satna, the Chief Minister said poverty would no longer be allowed to come in the way of girls’ education or marriage. “The State Government is committed to ensuring honourable status for every daughter,” he added.
