Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Thursday that the government had submitted a Rs.500-crore project to the Centre for jail reforms in the State. Speaking after inaugurating the Akshaya training programme for convicts at the Open Jail, Nettukalthery, he stressed the need for timely reforms in prisons. He said the government would take action on the report of the committee on Jail Act reforms. He added that directives had been issued to prison authorities to step up agricultural activities within the premises. V.J. Thankappan, MLA, presided over the function.
