HYDERABAD: Bolarum scored a 2-1 win over Venkatapuram to enter the semifinals of the Sachdev Sports Cup inter-summer coaching centres football tournament at the Trimulgherry ground here on Thursday. Striker Mohd. Shahbuddin put Bolarum ahead in the first-half. But just before the break, Bharath equalised for the rival. In the second session, Shahbuddin scored with a fine solo effort to clinch the issue for his team. In another match, Trimulgherry Village ‘A’ recorded a 3-1 win over Kamala Nehru Nagar in a tie-breaker to enter the last-four stage. The teams were locked goalless at full-time. In the tie-breaker, John, Kiran and Krishna were the scorers for the winner. Eliavassan was the only one successful for the loser. Sunder Raj passes awayFormer National hockey player, J.V. Sunder Raj, who was also the former assistant secretary of Hyderabad Hockey Association, passed away on Tuesday. He was a regular member of the Andhra Pradesh team between 1960 and 1970 and also a Grade I umpire. Hyderabad Hockey Association, at an emergency meeting here under the chairmanship of P. Kantaiah, Secretary, passed a condolence resolution and recalled the contribution Sunder Raj to the sport, who was said to be one of the most stylish centre-forwards of his era.
