Kamal Nath holds talks on Doha agenda

Washington: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath has held critical discussions with senior U.S. administration and Congressional leaders here on bilateral and WTO issues.

Upon his arrival on Wednesday, Mr. Nath met Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson and they discussed the Doha Development Agenda and issues of mutual interest including a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT).

The second round of exploratory discussions on the BIT will be held on June 13, according to an Indian Embassy release.

With Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, Democrat from Montana, Mr. Nath discussed the status of the Doha Round negotiations and the recent positive developments in India-U.S. commercial and economic relations.

He held discussions with U.S. Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab and also met Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer and Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez. — PTI
