Four militants killed in Manipur encounters

Imphal: Four militants were killed in two encounters with a combined force of police commandos and Assam Rifles personnel at the same place in Manipur’s Imphal East district, official sources said.

The forces, camping at Urup area, were attacked in the early hours on Thursday by militants and in the ensuing gunfight, two militants were shot dead.

At the same place on Wednesday night, security men shot dead two militants, while several fled under cover of darkness, the sources said.

PULF members

The four victims were suspected to be members of People’s United Liberation Front (PULF), they said, adding search was on for the fleeing militants.

Altogether two .303 rifles, one G-13 rifle, two lethod bombs and a 9 mm pistol with several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot. — PTI
