Seven arrested

Mettuppalayam: The special teams of the Coimbatore Rural Police have arrested seven persons in connection with the theft of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) materials such as transformers, copper and aluminium wires reported in and around Mettuppalayam area in the recent past.
Following frequent incidents of theft of TNEB materials, including live wires and transformers, the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan, Additional Superintendent of Police, K. Rajendran, had constituted special teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mettuppalayam, S.T. Rajan.
The accused had been identified as Mahalaingam, Sathish, Loganathan, Vijayan, Perumal, Mathi alias Mathavan and Raghu.
The police have also recovered 620 kg of copper wire, 150 kg worth of alumnium bars, 250 litres of transformer oil. All the recovered materials are estimated to be worth Rs 3.5 lakh.
The materials were looted from as many as 14 transformers in and around Mettuppalayam, Sirumugai, Karamadai and Annur areas, the police said. All the seven arrested were remanded to judicial custody.
