Seven held for ransacking MCD office

Staff Reporter

Incident took place on Sunday

Many files were destroyed at Lajpat Nagar office

Prime suspect worked as Class IV employee in the same office

NEW DELHI: Seven persons, including a former Class IV employee in the office of a special metropolitan magistrate, have been arrested for allegedly trespassing and ransacking a Municipal Corporation of Delhi office in Lajpat Nagar here over the weekend.

On Sunday evening, some unidentified young men reached the MCD Deputy Commissioner’s Office and tied up the security guard and the Control Room receptionist. They then broke open the locks of several rooms and destroyed a large number of files. Subsequently a case was registered at the Lajpat Nagar police station.

During investigation, the police questioned several people working in the MCD office and zeroed in on one Naresh who had earlier worked as a Class IV employee in the office of the special metropolitan magistrate.

During sustained interrogation, Naresh purportedly told the police that he would collect money from people for settling their challans and got the file signed by the magistrate without his knowledge. He was later transferred.

Naresh then contacted Rajender, a proclaimed bad character of Ambedkar Nagar, and his friend Brahampal and allegedly offered them Rs.3 lakh for destroying some unsigned files in the magistrate’s office for which he had already accepted money. He also told the duo that huge sums of cash were kept in the MCD office and the three allegedly hatched a plan to ransack the office and steal the money. Brahmpal hired a group of young men who executed the plan.

Following the disclosure, Rajender and Brahampal were also arrested along with their accomplices.
