Delhi’s first ‘Mahila Haat’ soon
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Capital will soon get its first “Mahila Haat” with stalls run exclusively by women.
Announcing this at a press conference on Thursday, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra said the Haat would be developed over about 6,000 square metres on the terrace area of the multi-level underground car parking on Asaf Ali Road.
Rotation basis
The Haat will comprise 64 stalls in three sizes which would exhibit sale material relating to women such as ornaments, furnishings, kitchen products, fabrics and other household items. The stalls would be changed every three months on a rotation basis.
In addition to the stalls, a gathering space for 500 people is also proposed. It will have open seating for over 100 people for watching cultural activities. Two bandstands have also been mooted in the green area for playing live music.
The entire project is slated to be completed by eight months at an estimated cost of Rs.6 crore.
“This,” the Mayor said, “will be a first-of-its-kind Haat dedicated to women who are poor and do not get a platform for showcasing their talent.”
