Gulbarga
Inspection: Minister for Cooperation Lakshman S. Savadi (second from right) checking the Gulbarga airport project plan during his visit to the site on Friday. GULBARGA: Minister for Cooperation Lakshman S. Savadi on Friday said that he would talk to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on the need for withdrawing the Government Order which had denied crop insurance benefits to the farmers who had availed themselves of the loan waiver facility announced by the State Government in 2006-07. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Savadi, who is also Gulbarga district in-charge Minister, said that during his visit to the Gulbarga District Cooperative Credit Bank in the city earlier, Chairman of the bank Kedarlingaiah Hiremath had brought the issue to his notice. The Chairman said that the bank had Rs. 11 crore insurance amount which was due to farmers and it was not in a position to disburse the same owing a ban imposed through the order, according to the Minister. Mr. Savadi said that the order was issued during the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party Government. The Minister said that he would seek the Chief Minister’s intervention in withdrawing the order. To a question, Mr. Savadi said that he would attach greater importance to improve infrastructure in Gulbarga city. Priority would be given to road widening work which had been pending for the past several years, he said. Later, Mr. Savadi, accompanied by Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Naik Belamgi and other BJP leaders, inspected the site where the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for Gulbarga airport in Srinivas Saradgi village on Saturday. They also visited the renovated Sharanabasaveshwar Tank, which will be also inaugurated by the Chief Minister, and the N.V. Grounds where Mr. Yeddyurappa will address a public meeting.
