PANAJI: The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), State-owned industrial development agency, on Friday decided to recall the land allotted to seven special economic zone (SEZ) projects in the State. The decision was taken by the board of GIDC following a meeting between Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Chairman of GIDC Chandrakant Kavlekar, Congress MLA. It is in tune with the State Government’s earlier decision to scrap SEZ projects. The GIDC decision is applicable to the three special economic zones notified by the Centre, three others awaiting notification and one recommended by the State Government earlier, but not approved. With public opposition, the Congress-led coalition Government decided to scrap all the special economic zones and had told the Union Commerce Ministry to de-notify three special economic zones. Private promoters have challenged the State Government decision in the court of law.
