Karthikeyan adjuged best

THANJAVUR: K. Karthikeyan was adjudged the ‘Best Boxer’ at the 27th Tamil Nadu junior boxing championship, organised by Thanjavur District Boxing Association, at St. Peter’s HSS, Keezhavasal on Thursday.

The winners: Light Fly: E. Raguvaran (SAI); Fly: M. Giridharan (SABI); Bantam: V. Saranraj (SABI); Feather: A. Kumar (SABI); Light: V. Ranjith Kumar (Perambalur); Light Welter: V. Raj Kumar (Sivaganga); Welter: V. Dravidaselvan (SABI); Middle: K. Karthikeyan; Light Heavy: V. Vigneswaran (Pudukottai); Heavy: E. Sasikumar (Thanjavur); Super Heavy: B. Balaji (Vellore).

Team Championship: SABI, Chennai (29 Points).

Basketball league

The Mamannan Rajaraja Cholan Rural Basketball Development Trust will conduct the Thanjavur District-level Arjuna Awardee T. Vijayaraghavan basketball league tournament from June 28 to the first week of August during Saturdays and Sundays.

The league is open for the school teams (boys and girls) comprising students of Std VI to X. Contact Ramesh Kumar, ph: 97911 59474.

Cricket trials

The Tiruchi District Cricket Association will conduct trials to select the Tiruchi teams in under-22, 19, 16 and 13 age groups for the inter-district cricket tournaments. The venue will be National College, Tiruchi. The under-22 selection trials will be held on June 21 and for the under-19 and 16 age groups it will be on June 15.

Sivananda in semifinals

The top seeds, Sivananda Seshadhiri of LTTA and IOC’s A.C. Nivedita, entered the semifinals of the Sri Kaliswari College Tamil Nadu State-ranking table tennis tournament, organised by the Virudhunagar Table Tennis Association, at the A.J. indoor stadium at Sivakasi on Friday.
