‘Shortage to be addressed by June 20’

Protest: Farmers protesting near Medehalli area in Chitradurga on Friday demanding the supply of fertilizers.

Chitradurga: Though the sowing season has commenced, farmers are facing scarcity of fertilizers is most parts of the district.

Farmers have already begun sowing of jowar, maize, sunflower and commercial crops such as cotton, but inadequate supply of fertilizers has upset them . However, speaking to The Hindu, joint director of Agriculture Department B.R. Shankar has assured that the fertilizer shortage would be largely addressed by June 20.

On Friday, farmers staged a protest near Medehalli area demanding that the Government supply the required quantity of fertilizers immediately.

According to Agriculture Department, it should have received 14,169 tonnes of fertilizers by June 4, but so far it has procured only 4,376 tonnes.
