Order to implead Pro-Vice-Chancellor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Upa Lok Ayukta N. Krishnan Nair has ordered that University of Kerala Pro-Vice-Chancellor V. Jayaprakas be impleaded as additional third respondent in the case relating to the selection test for university assistants held by the University of Kerala in 2005.

There were allegations of widespread favouritism in the appointments made on the basis of the selection test and a subsequent interview.

Based on a complaint by one S.S. Sujith the Upa Lok Ayukta had earlier ordered that the University produce the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) answer sheets of these examinations.

The standing counsel of the University told the Upa Lok Ayukta on Friday that the university was not in a position to produce the answer sheets. The Registrar and the Security Officer approached the agency that evaluated the answer papers but they could not procure the same. Though the agency said that it had despatched the answer sheets to the university, there were reportedly no records with the latter to confirm the receipt of the answer sheets, the Upa Lok Ayukta’s order noted. The university’s standing counsel also told the forum that the Registrar had submitted a report to the university about his visit. The university has been directed to produce the report submitted by the Registrar on the next ‘posting date,’ June 20.
