Demand for and against separate Telangana bound to become shriller HYDERABAD: After three days of verbal wrestling over Telangana, there was a relative lull in Telugu Desam seniors’ camp on Friday but the reprieve looked deceptive and temporary. The demand for and against the party taking a decisive line on separate Telangana is bound to become shriller, as the crucial meeting of the five-member core committee constituted to study the issue is just five days away. There was surprise in some quarters of the party on why the party leadership was dithering and not acting firmly against those who were openly defying the party’s president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s diktat not to air views on the issue in public. The lone voice was that of former Minister, Cheruku Muthyam Reddy, who lost the byelections from Dommat. He said he would await the outcome of the core committee’s meeting before deciding his future course of action. When reminded that he stuck to the slogan of “Jai Telangana” during the election campaign, Mr. Reddy said he was not the lone TDP candidate to do that. Others, including Kadiam Srihari, E. Peddi Reddy and E. Dayakar Rao, also raised a similar slogan. He felt there was no need for the TDP to take a hasty decision on the issue since its stakes in it, being a regional party, were lesser than the Congress and BJP. Meanwhile, TDP polit bureau member, N. Janardhan Reddy, who is a member of the committee, said he would reveal his personal opinion as well what is good for the party to the panel and he expected other seniors to do the same. He said it was wrong to compare this committee with the one constituted by the UPA government and headed by Pranab Mukherjee which was formed with the single point agenda of stalling a decision and deceiving the people of Telangana. “In contrast, our committee will help in coming up with definite decision soon”.
