CHENNAI: Responding to the charge of Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss that even his phone was being tapped, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday asked if there was any proof for this. Explaining the elaborate process the government had to undergo before obtaining sanction to tap a phone, Mr. Karunanidhi said it was not easy. Permission had to be sought from the Centre and officials there convinced that there was a case. Only after all these could a phone be tapped. He was speaking at a marriage function here on Friday. At the function, party treasurer Arcot N.Veeraswami, referred to a recent speech of PMK leader J. Guru and said it was an attempt to incite violence. He had spoken in an indecent manner about Mr. Karunanidhi, DMK’s front-ranking leaders and openly issued a threat to many DMK leaders. Responding to this, Mr. Karunanidhi said the CD containing the speech would be analysed and a decision taken. As Chief Minister, he would also hand over the CD to the police for further investigation. “This is not because the government is with us,” he clarified. The intention was to request the police to decide on the issue from a law and order perspective. Because of the manner in which the PMK member had spoken, the question arose if the DMK should continue to remain in alliance with the party that openly advocated violence and spoke ill of the DMK leadership.
