Auspicious start: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laying the foundation stone for the improvement of the left bank of Ghodahada River near Patharapunji village in Ganjam district on Friday during his one day visit to the district.

BERHAMPUR: It was a ‘touch and run’ day for the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik in Ganjam district on Friday.

He was on a visit to his home constituency, Hinjli. Keeping elections in mind his tour planners had also included functions in Seragada area. After delimitation and reconstitution of constituencies it is going to be part of the Hinjli Assembly segment.

The helicopter of the Chief Minister landed at Mahatma Gandhi High School ground helipad at Seragada at around 10 a.m. After a whirl wind tour using helicopter and cars he flew to Bhubaneswar from the Hinjli stadium helipad at around 4 p.m.

During these six hours he managed to attend 15 foundation stone laying ceremonies and nine inaugurations. It was a quite tiring day for the BJD leaders of the district as they also sped behind the motorcade of their party chief and Chief Minister to show off their loyalty.

At no function the Chief Minister spent more than 10 to 15 minutes.

The only place where he stayed for around 45 minutes was the Hinjli PWD Inspection Bunglow, where he took his lunch.

At Seragada he laid the foundation stone for improvement of Seragada-Hinjli road, laid foundation stone for new school building of MD high school, inaugurated a new school building at Takarada, and a new panchayat office. He also laid a series of foundation stones at Kulagada village for developmental projects including a drinking water project.

He used helicopter to hop from Seragada to Hinjli. His spree of inaugurations and foundation stone laying continued at Hinjli and its adjoining areas.

Foundation stone for improvement of Ghodahada Bridge was also laid by him.

His other stops included inauguration of village electrification project at Kaithakhandi, foundation stone laying for a weaver society building at Kanteikoli and inaugurating a plantation programme at Makarjhol.

During his tight schedule aimed at the coming Panchayat polls he did not forget to take out some time to garland his father Biju Patnaik’s statue at Hinjli.
