Inter-State bus terminus in Dwarka soon

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An inter-State bus terminus being developed in Dwarka sub-city will become the first integrated transit hub in the country catering to inter-State buses, metro railways and the proposed light rail transit system.

To be constructed under public-private partnership by the Delhi Government, the project will be contracted out for development by this coming August, said State Transport Commissioner R.K. Verma at an “Investors’ Meet” organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday.

All passenger amenities

“ISBT Dwarka will comprise bus terminal facilities with all passenger amenities and provide interconnectivity between multiple modes of public transport. The project envisages development of a five-star hotel including commercial space, development of a 22-bus base at the ground level and underground provision for parking of buses,” said Mr. Verma, adding that the project located near the world-class convention centre developed by DLF and Indira Gandhi International Airport will be governed by the Master Plan for Delhi - 2021.

Interacting with potential developers, Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Managing Director S.N. Sahai said the project, on a build-operate-maintain-manage basis, is on offer for 40 years. It would be made operational before the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Rajnish Goenka of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the ISBT would reduce the load on the existing Kashmere Gate terminal, curtail movement of inter-State buses within the city and at the same time create a new model of development.
