Vadodara: The M.S. University has been served a legal notice to declare the result of an Arts student withheld for the past 13 months after his paintings triggered a religious controversy. The varsity had withheld the result of Srimantula Srimantula Chandramohan, a final year Master of Visual Arts student, after he was accused of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus in Vadodra district through his paintings displayed in the Fine Arts faculty in May 2007. Chandramohan’s legal counsel Narendra Parmar said he was a bonafide student, who had fulfilled all the requirements for appearing in the examination conducted by the university last year. Mr. Parmar asked the university to declare Chandramohan’s result within seven days and even hold a special supplementary convocation to confer the degree on him. Chandramohan’s paintings were displayed during an exhibition in the university. Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists had barged into the exhibition hall and vandalised the paintings on the ground it had hurt the religious feelings of the Hindu community. The activists demanded the removal of the paintings. Jain had registered a police complaint against Chandramohan, who was even arrested. — PTI
