Ryots unrest echoes at ZP meet

Delay in supply of fertilizer questioned

HYDERABAD: The agitation of farmers in and around Vikarabad over shortage of fertilizers and seeds for this kharif dominated the general body meeting of Ranga Reddy Zilla Praja Parishad on Friday.

Normal proceedings were stalled for a while as ruckus prevailed with ZP members demanding an explanation for the delay in supply. Members of ZPTC and Mandal Praja Parishad demanded suspension of officials in-charge of procurement of fertilizers and seeds. They refused to restore normalcy till Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy, gave an answer.

“Because of rain on Thursday, fertilizers and seeds were not sent to the district. By Saturday, farmers would be able to get all the supplies. Please call me or the Collector on this issue so that we can solve such issues quickly,” she said.

Earlier, several ZPTC and MPP members criticised Agriculture Department authorities for not taking pro-active measures. “Authorities knew that kharif has started, yet they delayed supplies.

That is why Vikarabad farmers have attacked the local fertilizer and seed distribution centres on Friday,” they said.

The ZPTC and MPP members also highlighted hitches in implementing the NREG scheme in the district.

CBSE syllabus

Members also raised the issue of closing down upper primary schools in the district, located within two kilometres of the proposed ‘Success Schools’, where Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus would be introduced till Class 12.

Collector M. Dana Kishore pointed out that this was a policy decision to be taken-up by the government.

Tandur legislator M. Narayan Rao, Parigi legislator K. Harishwar Reddy and Vikarabad legislator Prasad were present.
